Shamarh Brooks is a calm, composed batsman with a wristy elegance. He was part of the West Indies Under – 19 WC squads in 2006 and 2008, also captaining the side in the 2008 edition in Malaysia.
In 2007, Brooks made his first-class debut for Barbados as an allrounder against Guyana. From his debut in 2007 to 2012, Brooks managed to score 549 runs at 18.93 with a sole fifty to his name and was never picked for the next two seasons.
Brooks soon became a regular member of the team with a couple of hundreds in the 2014-15 Domestic 4 Day competition and scored 632 runs in the year 2017, his highest ever in a season. S Brooks captained various teams such as Barbados, President XI and West Indies A but the national team call-up always eluded him.
After success with the bat for the West Indies A team in England in 2018, Shamarh Brooks made his test debut for West Indies against India on 22nd August 2019. Brooks scored a fighting 50 in the second test against the likes of Bumrah, Shami and Ishant. Brooks showcased the potential with the bat by scoring his maiden Test century against an Afghani attack in Lucknow, 2019. In the recently concluded Wisden Trophy 2020, Brooks scored 195 runs at 32.5 against England only behind J Blackwood from the Windies side.
