MI vs CSK Dream11 Prediction: After all those boring months, we are still some time away from a vaccine to come out of this COVID-19 pandemic. But cricket fans may just have an alternate in the offing. Yes, you are thinking about it on the right track. The wait is over for them and much anticipated season of Indian Premier League will kick-off today in Abu Dhabi. The opening match of the season will be the good old ‘El-Clasico’ of IPL between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians are coming into this season with another well-deserved tag of ‘favourites’. They are the most successful team in the IPL history and last year’s final victory against the same opponent should be fresh in their memories. They have plenty to select from really but they are expected to go in with the ‘tried and tested’ formula for them. This has been confirmed by himself that Rohit Sharma will be opening for them in this season. And this can be a welcome move for Rohit Sharma as a player because he has had a relatively quiet couple of seasons with the bat. The only department in which they lack experience is spin-bowling but here also they have quality in Rahul Chahar no doubt. Quinton de Kock & Kieron Pollard will lock themselves in the playing XI while two of Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile & Mitchell McClenaghan are expected to play in the opening encounter.
After all those early hiccups in the camp, Chennai Super Kings are ready to get their campaign underway in UAE. They have been the most consistent team in the history of the league and they are so because of a reason. They have maintained and backed their core players to do the job for them over the years and this time also, it will be no different. They are not looking like the strongest team on the paper but hey, we all know what MS Dhoni can do with his troops. Suresh Raina has returned to India and will be missing the initial half of the season at least. To fill his place in the batting lineup will be the most difficult task for the team management this year. They can try someone like Ravindra Jadeja at the top this year given that he is a left-hander and has enough experience in this format. Lungi Ngidi will be a tempting option to play in the XI but he will be competing with Faf du Plessis for an overseas spot. Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo and Imran Tahir should start against Mumbai Indians today.
In head-to-head comparisons, Mumbai Indians enjoy an upper hand over their rivals with a lead of 18-12 from 30 matches played between them. They have also beaten CSK in 3 finals to take the championships in 2013, 2015 & 2019. In last 5 encounters, it is one-way traffic as Mumbai Indians have swept away on all the occasions. But the record of Mumbai Indians in their first matches hasn’t been great with only 4 wins in 12 of their opening clashes.
The match will be played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and clear skies are expected for today. This is being the evening match, the temperatures will also remain in a pleasant zone. The playing surface here should assist the slower bowlers significantly looking at the history. Also combined with the large playing area, this will be the most difficult ground for the batsmen out of all 3 venues in UAE this year.
