IPL Auctions: Costliest players Over the Years

The buzz around IPL 2018 is already huge and the recently concluded IPL auction 2018 has fueled it further. Let’s take a look at the top IPL buys over the years.

 

Ben Stokes

British cricketer Ben Stokes was the most expensive player in VIVO IPL 2017. The English all-rounder was bought at Rs 14.5 crore by Rising Pune Supergiants after a bidding tussle between Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

 

Shane Watson

In 2016, Australian all-rounder Shane Watson went for a mammoth Rs 9.5 crore. Rising Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians could not get him as Royal Challengers Bangalore bid the most.

 

Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh was the most expensive IPL player in two IPL editions – 2014 and 2015. Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased him for Rs 14 crore in 2014, while Delhi Daredevils bagged him for a record price of Rs 16 crore in 2015.

 

Glenn Maxwell

Glen Maxwell was the top buy of IPL 2013. The 24-year-old Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell went for a colossal Rs 5.3 crore to surprise one and all.

 

Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja was the most expensive player of IPL 2012. His acquisition by Chennai Super Kings at Rs 12.8 crore not only enhanced his credentials but also pushed his performance.

 

Gautam Gambhir

Kolkata Knight Riders, which sealed two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, bought Gautam Gambhir in 2011. Gautam Gambhir became the first Indian player to go past the 10-crore mark in the auction.

 

Kieron Pollard and Shane Bond

Kieron Pollard and Shane Bond were the top buys of IPL 2010. Mumbai Indians purchased Kieron Pollard, while Kolkata Knight Riders purchased Shane Bond. Both of them went for 4.8 crore.

 

Kevin Pietersen

Royal Challengers Bangalore picked Kevin Pietersen at the 2009 IPL auction at Rs. 9.5 crore. The English batsman put in some incredible performances to justify his price tag.

 

MS Dhoni

Former Indian Skipper MS Dhoni was the top pick of IPL 2008. ICC World T20 success turned him the most expensive player in that IPL.
