The biggest agenda for the Indian team management is that who will be opening the batting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in the first Test match against Australia starting from Thursday. India’s vice-captain KL Rahul has not been in the best of forms especially in the longer format of the game off late. On the other hand, Shubman Gill has been in a terrific form during the recent while having scored a total of 5 centuries across the three formats recently. It is very much likely that Shubman and Rohit will be the two openers while Rahul will bat in the middle-order. This also means that explosive batsman Suryakumar Yadav might have to wait some more to make his Test debut.

KS Bharat is very much likely to play as the wicket-keeper batsman ahead of Ishan Kishan as the former has been with the Indian Test squad for a while now. The other main question for captain Rohit Sharma will be the choice for the third spinner between Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Axar is likely to get the edge as he can be a handy batsman on the spin-friendly Nagpur wicket. The Indian side will go ahead with the pace duo of Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj while Umesh Yadav will unfortunately have to warm the bench.
