The Royal Challengers Bangalore have had a banger of a start this season. The Faf du Plessis led side has defeated 5-time champions Mumbai Indians quite convincingly by 8 wickets at M Chinnaswamy stadium. RCB will now head to the east at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium to face the hosts Kolkata Knight Riders.
RCB has suffered a major setback as young batsman Rajat Patidar has been ruled out of IPL 2023 due to an Achilles Heel injury, and the team management has decided not to name a replacement for him. Patidar had emerged as a promising talent last year, smashing a match-winning century against Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator. Patidar’s absence will be a big blow for RCB who are still chasing their first IPL title.
Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood is yet to join the RCB squad. The right-arm pacer is nursing an injury which he picked up ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy last month. There is no update on when Hazlewood will join the squad, but RCB team management is hoping to have him onboard as soon as possible. Wanindu Hasaranga is also unavailable until Sri Lanka’s T20I series against New Zealand is over. The final T20I between New Zealand and Sri Lanka will take place on April 8.
RCB’s English recruit Reece Topley dislocated his shoulder during a fielding effort against Mumbai Indians in the last game. If he is unavailable, David Willey will be in the playing 11.
