The Indian team will be touring West Indies next month where they will be playing 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is starting with the opening Test match scheduled to begin from 12 July, 2023 taking place at the Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. This will also be India’s first Test series after that horrendous defeat at the hands of the Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final 2023. India will be beginning their 2023 – 2025 WTC cycle with the WI vs IND two-match Test series.

After Cheteshwar Pujara being dropped from the Test squad, one of Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad will surely be making their India debut in the first Test against West Indies. Jaiswal might be the frontrunner for the No.3 position as he gives a left-handed batter option to the Indian team. The duo of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will be opening the batting. India’s batting will be strengthen with the presence of Virat Kohli and the newly appointed vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane who scored an impressive half-century in the first innings of the WTC final against Australia. Despite poor performances with the bat so far, KS Bharat is expected to be the frontrunner for the wicket-keeper batsman’s slot.
It will be interesting to see whether India plays both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI for the opening Test against West Indies. Left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel is once again expected to warm the bench in the two-match Test series. With Mohammed Shami rested and Umesh Yadav dropped, Mohammed Siraj will be leading India’s pace bowling attack alongside Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat. The Indian team management will also be considering to play right-arm pacer Mukesh Kumar in the side.
