In a crucial news update, Team India are not playing their premier leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the first of the three ODI matches against West Indies taking place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. During the recent while in ODI cricket, India has defeated both Sri Lanka, New Zealand at home but ended up losing 1-2 at the hands of Australia.
During the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that right-arm leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal misses out from the India playing 11 for the IND vs WI 1st ODI match. Rohit further stated that they are playing as many as two frontline spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. Interestingly, Kuldeep has been frontrunner as the second spinner in ODI cricket during the last three series in the India playing 11 ahead of Chahal and left-arm wrist spinner has also performed reasonably well during those opportunities. While playing in a total of 72 ODIs, Chahal has taken as many as 121 wickets at an economy of 5.27. On the other hand, Kuldeep has picked up 134 wickets from 82 ODI matches at an economy of 5.22.
“We are gonna field first, no particular reason. We are gonna try a few different things. We want to head into the World Cup with a clear mindset. For us, the results are also important. At times, we are going to try out different players but we don’t want to compromise on our results. All cricketers around the world who are playing all formats need to adapt well. Hopefully, we can get what we want here. We have got four seamers and two spinners,” said India captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.
