Delhi Capitals will face off against Gujarat Titans in the 32nd match of IPL 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
GT have lost 4 out of 8 matches so far in the tournament and DC have lost 5 matches out of 8 in the ongoing edition of IPL 2024.
As the tournament is at the mid-way stage, DC will play a must-win game to remain in the competition for the playoffs. Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, would want to maintain their winning streak and overtake CSK at the 5th spot.
Any fan would not want a rematch of the last head-to-head played in this tournament where GT got bundled at 89 just a week ago at their home.
The two teams have faced each other 4 times with each team having 2 victories.
Shubman Gill will be a big wicket in the game. He was sent back by Ishant in the last head-to-head. However, Ishant’s availability is still in doubt. But among the current DC bowlers, Khaleel Ahmed has the best numbers against him. The left-arm pacer has dismissed him twice in 27 balls and conceded 42 runs. Khaleel is bowling well and has taken the most wickets for DC in the ongoing IPL 2024.
David Warner has struggled in the last few games for DC. On the other hand, he will face Azmatullah Omarzai who is swinging the new balls in this tournament. The Afghanistani pacer has dismissed the DC opener once in ODI. It will be a great battle to watch out for.
One big battle will be between DC skipper Rishabh Pant and GT’s best bowler, Rashid Khan. This battle will certainly impact the game during the middle overs. Pant has been in good form, but he has found it tough to play against Rashid. Pant has scored 97 runs off 82 balls against him at a strike rate of 118.3 and got out twice with 30 dot balls.
The wrist spinner has been effective against the left-handed batter. Kuldeep has sent back Miller 3 times in international cricket. Miller has scored 26 runs off 22 balls against Kuldeep with a strike rate of 118.2.
Pant is leading from the front this season. His performance will matter a lot for the home team. Contrastingly, GT’s Mohit Sharma has been brilliant in the death overs. It will be a great battle to watch out for in the second half of the DC’s innings when Rashid and Mohit will bowl against Pant. However, Mohit Sharma has not got the wicket of the left-handed batsman yet in the previous three occasions.
Khaleel Ahmed has had success against left-handers in this IPL, picking up five wickets, and he’ll be a good option against the likes of Sai Sudharsan, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia. Between them, Nortje and Khaleel have dismissed Gill five times while the left-arm seamer has also accounted for Shahrukh Khan three times in 10 deliveries. Despite the unusual matchup, Axar Patel has dismissed Tewatia two times in 16 deliveries and has conceded only 13 runs.
Tristan Stubbs has scored well against the pacers this season – 108 runs at a strike rate of 174.19 – and GT might look at using their spin options more against him. Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma have good numbers against DC – 21 and 14 wickets respectively – and GT will be banking on them to deliver more success.
