More IPL Mega Auction 2025 details
According to Espncricinfo, England’s legendary fast bowler James Anderson has thrown his hat in the ring for the first time in Indian Premier League, setting a base price of INR 1.25 crore. Anderson, who retired from international cricket this past summer. Since Anderson is now a bowling coach for England and has stayed away from T20 cricket since 2014, an entry into the IPL has become a major talking point.
IPL 2025 is likely to mark a return for Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who has set his base price at INR 2 crore. The pacer hasn’t been seen in action since the 2023 ODI World Cup final due to a series of injuries. After a long-term injury and after not being retained by Gujarat Titans, Shami would look to make a strong return on the cricket scene again.
Meanwhile, the other big stories around players registered for the auction are of young Indian talents Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan. Both have registered at a base price of INR 75 lakh. For Sarfaraz, who went unsold in the previous auction, this could be another opportunity to prove his mettle and rise up his T20 stocks. On the other hand, Prthivi Shaw who is known for his explosive style but had a cold tournament would be eyeing a strong comeback and will surely be a hot pick for teams seeking aggressive opening batsman.
And with a new rule that requires overseas players to register for the mega auction to be eligible for the mini-auction (unless excused for medical reasons), we’ll see fewer top international stars holding back. This change aims to keep the competition balanced, making the mega auction the primary event where franchises can go after marquee players.
