Cricket West Indies has announced a 15-man squad for the 2-match Test series against India in October 2025. The two matches will be played in Ahmedabad and New Delhi and will also serve as the maiden test assignment for the West Indies in the new ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle. Key Takeaways from the Squad

The squad led by Roston Chase blends youth and experience, with a focus on spin, pace variety, and top-order stability.

  • Gudakesh Motie has been rested for this series to manage workload ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in early 2026.
  • Former captain Kraigg Brathwaite, who last played his 100th Test match for West Indies in the home series against Australia earlier this year, has been dropped. Brathwaite managed just 15 runs across four innings in the home series against Australia and was eventually benched for the third test. His long dip in form resulted in the axe.
  • Khary Pierre, a 33-year-old left-arm spinner, earns his maiden Test call-up after topping the West Indies Championship charts with 41 wickets at an average of 13.56. He could play an instrumental role in the spin-friendly conditions in India.
  • Alick Athanaze also returns to the squad. The left-hander will be batting in the middle order and has returned to the squad after last featuring in the series against Pakistan.
  • Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of legendary Caribbean batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul, has been recalled to the Test squad. The southpaw returns after an 18-month hiatus and is expected to open the innings in Brathwaite’s absence.

India vs West Indies Test Series Schedule

Both matches are part of the World Test Championship, making them crucial for early points in the new cycle. The West Indies squad will arrive in Ahmedabad on September 24, giving them a week to acclimatize before the first Test.

  • 1st Test- October 2-6, 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
  • 2nd Test- October 10-14, 2025, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

What’s at Stake?

For West Indies, this series is more than just a bilateral contest—it’s a litmus test for their lost Test identity. With Roston Chase at the helm and a refreshed lineup, the team aims to shed its inconsistency and build a competitive red-ball unit. Their recent humiliation at home against Australia has revealed many potholes in the team’s ability, but with a refreshed and renewed squad, the West Indies will look to aim for glory and get better in the ever-evolving scenario of Test cricket.

India, meanwhile, will look to dominate at home and kickstart their WTC campaign with maximum points. This would be Team India’s first home Test assignment after their humiliating 3-0 loss to New Zealand, their first Test series defeat after 12 long years at home.

Both teams have a point to prove, making the series a must-watch. These two tests promise high-quality cricket, strategic battles, and a glimpse into the future of West Indies Test cricket. Whether West Indies’ new-look squad can rise to the occasion remains to be seen, but the intent is clear: rebuild, compete, and challenge the best.
