The 5-time champions Chennai Super Kings’ injury list has a new addition. English all-rounder Jamie Overton is the latest name to be added to the list, as he has returned home (England) due to a right thigh injury. The Super Kings are in the middle of a terrific run this season, as they are closing in on a playoff berth, and a news like this is nothing but a setback for the 5-time champions.

Overton has been a key figure in CSK’s campaign this season. The 32-year-old all-rounder from Barnstaple, Devon as he has been among runs and wickets for the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side. CSK management didn’t specify the extent of Overton’s injury and also were spellbound on if the all-rounder is ruled out of the entire season. CSK’s official social media handle on Wednesday night posted the following:

“Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management.”

Overton also expressed his grief of leaving the tournament at this stage. This is what he posted on his instagram story,

“Gutted to be heading home early before the job’s done.”

For now, it seems like the Englishman won’t be available for the remaining three group fixtures of the Chennai Super Kings in this season of the Tata IPL.

Jamie Overton will be a massive miss for the 5-time champions

Jamie Overton was the only fast-bowling all-rounder in the CSK regular lineup this season. He currently stands as the second leading wicket-taker for the team with 14 scalps at an average of 17.78 and an economy of 8.89. In his last outing for CSK, Overton returned with figures of 3 for 36 against the Lucknow Super Giants on May 11 at the Chepauk. His brilliant show with the ball earned him the much-deserved man of the match award.

CSK and injuries have gone hand in hand this season. Before IPL 2026 even began, the 5-time champions were dealt a blow with Aussie fast bowler Nathan Ellis sidelined due to a hamstring injury. The setbacks continued as left‑arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed (quadriceps) and young batter Ayush Mhatre (hamstring) were ruled out during the season. Dewald Brevis also missed the opening three matches with a side strain, all of which CSK lost, while veterans MS Dhoni and Australian quick Spencer Johnson (still injured and came as an injury replacement for Ellis) are yet to feature this year.

CKS’s Road to the Playoffs

Despite regular injury setbacks, the Chennai Super Kings have grinded hard and are in a position to make it to the playoffs. Currently sitting 5th on the table with 6 wins and 5 losses from 11 games, the five-time champions still have a chance of making it to the playoffs.

They are left with three games, and if they secure wins in all their remaining fixtures, CSK will end the group stage with 18 points, which will be more than enough to secure a playoff berth. In fact, 18 points can help them finish among the top two, where they will have an extra chance of making it to the finals.
