Key Takeaways

  • Senior batter Virat Kohli returns to the squad after missing the previous ODI series at home against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury.
  • He is in the initial squad, but his availability remains subject to fitness.
  • Jasprit Bumrah is named in the ODI squad for the first time since 2023.
  • He last played an ODI for India in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup final against Australia.
  • Gautam Gambhir’s favorite, Harshit Rana, returns to the squad after recovering from a knee injury.
  • That injury cost him quite a bit, as he last played an international game back in February 2026.
  • Harshit returns to the squad without playing a single domestic game after recovering from injury.
  • Playing domestic games is often emphasized by head coach Gautam Gambhir, but this rule may not be imposed on his favorite Rana.
  • Rana’s return meant Prince Yadav had to make way for him.
  • All-rounder Axar Patel also returns to the squad after missing the last two home ODI series for India. He replaced Harsh Dubey in the squad.
  • Washington Sundar, without any massive contribution with bat or ball in the ODI format, keeps his place.
  • After a more than decent show with the ball in the recently concluded ODI series against Afghanistan, Punjab pacer Gurnoor Brar keeps his place in the squad.
  • Despite scoring a fabulous ton in the final ODI against Afghanistan, poor Yashasvi Jaiswal had to miss out on the 15-member squad.
  • All-rounder Hardik Pandya continues to recover from the leg injury that he picked up during rehab at the BCCI Center of Excellence.
  • Hardik was initially named in the ODI squad for the Afghanistan series, but after picking up a leg injury, he missed that series as well.
  • Andhra Pradesh all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy keeps his place in the squad as Hardik’s like-for-like replacement.
