The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the white-ball squad for the upcoming West Indies ODI series, alongside making some changes to the 2026 Asian Games squad. Due to a scheduling overlap between the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, and the bilateral ODI series against West Indies at home, the selectors have split the two squads to manage workload and player development.
One of the major changes from the Asian Games squad is the withdrawal of seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. The Andhra all-rounder was previously selected in the Asian Games squad but has been withdrawn to feature in the ODI series starting from September 27.
Reddy, who recently returned to the international colors in the T20I series against Afghanistan after successfully completing a rehabilitation program at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru following a quad injury. With senior all-rounder Hardik Pandya missing out due to an injury, the selectors have brought in Nitish Kumar Reddy for the ODI series.
In another update, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was ruled out of the 2026 Asian Games squad after picking up a side strain during the first T20I in the ongoing series against Afghanistan. The Men’s Selection Committee named leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam as the official replacement in the Asian Games squad. Addressing the squad adjustments, BCCI confirmed in an official statement,
“Varun Chakaravarthy has been ruled out of the upcoming Japan T20I and the Asian Games owing to a side strain. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Vipraj Nigam as his replacement. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was originally included in the Asian Games squad, has been withdrawn and will feature in the ODI series against the West Indies.”
