After appointing Sourav Ganguly as their new head coach, the Delhi Capitals have gone one step further as they have appointed former Indian left-hand batter and World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh as their new assistant and batting coach. Yuvraj’s coaching tenure will start from IPL 2027 and will remain with the team for at least the next two years.

The high-profile appointment comes as Delhi Capitals restructure their coaching setup following a quiet campaign in the last two seasons, where they failed to reach the playoffs. With Yuvraj and Danguly at the helm, the Capitals owners expect the team to get infused with big-match temperament, fearless aggressive intent, and a championship-winning mentality.

Yuvraj Singh’s homecoming

The high-profile appointment also marks a sort of homecoming for Yuvraj Singh, who has previously represented the franchise as a player during the 2015 IPL season after being bought for a record ₹16 crore.

Although Yuvraj Singh has informally mentored several young Indian talents, including the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Prabhsimran Singh, this stint with DC will be Yuvraj’s first assignment in a formal role in franchise management.

Expressing his thrill after being appointed the assistant and batting coach of the Delhi Capitals, Yuvraj said,

“I am thrilled to join Delhi Capitals as assistant coach and batting coach. DC has a dynamic group of players with immense talent, and I am excited to work closely with them. My goal is to help build a fearless mindset, instil confidence, and share the lessons I’ve learned throughout my career.”

Yuvraj Singh to work alongside Sourav Ganguly

Yuvraj Singh joins the Delhi Capitals setup in a revamped coaching staff. He will work closely with his former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly, who was the one to insist on Yuvraj’s name to the DC owners for the role.

The management expects Yuvraj’s unmatched experience in white-ball cricket, having hit six sixes in an over during the 2007 T20 World Cup and winning Player of the Tournament at the 2011 ODI World Cup, to play a transformative role in guiding DC’s middle order and finishing department.

DC’s co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed Yuvraj Singh to the Delhi Capitals’ family. He stated,

“Yuvraj Singh’s record as a player speaks for itself, but it is his passion for developing young talent and his winning mentality that makes him a perfect fit for Delhi Capitals. We believe his guidance will be invaluable for our batters and the overall team culture as we prepare for the upcoming IPL season.”

What Yuvraj Brings to the Delhi Capitals

Apart from the wealth of experience, the former stylish left-hand batter brings several strategic advantages to the Delhi Capitals dugout as the team prepares for the upcoming season and auction.

  • Mentorship for Young Power-Hitters: Having personally trained players who have gone on to break powerplay scoring records, Yuvraj’s hands-on coaching approach will refine the technique and mindset of DC’s young Indian batters.
  • Middle-Order Tactical Clarity: As one of India’s greatest white-ball finishers, Yuvraj will focus on match awareness, pacing an innings, and clearing the boundary under intense death-over pressure.
  • Championship Winning Mindset: Having won multiple ICC trophies alongside IPL titles with Sunrisers Hyderabad (2016) and Mumbai Indians (2019), Yuvraj brings proven championship pedigree to a franchise hunting its maiden IPL title.

With Yuvraj Singh now at the helm, the Capitals would be hoping to get closer to the IPL trophy in the upcoming season. Ganguly & Yuvraj have done wonders for India, and Delhi Capitals management will hope the pair can help the team clinch its first‑ever IPL trophy.
