Wasim Jaffer is all-set to add another feather in his cap. At stumps on day 2, Wasim Jaffer remained unbeaten on 285 runs playing for Vidharbha against Rest of India in Irani Cup. The 40-year old former India batsman is now only 15 runs shy of the big landmark – the oldest Indian to score a First Class triple ton. Currently, the record is held by Raman Lamba.
During his knock of 285*, Jaffer became the first Indian and the oldest Asian to score 250 plus score at the age of 40 or more in a First Class innings. He is the fifth Indian batsman to score a double century at the age of 40. En route unbeaten 285, the Vidarbha batsman also shattered Murali Vijay’s record of 266, the highest individual score in the history of Irani Cup.
Wasim Jaffer’s international career lasted 31 Test matches, but he said that he has buried the past and does not regret not getting a call-up post-2008 despite having decent scores in domestic cricket.
“I don’t think about my stint of international cricket anymore. I feel blessed to have represented my country in 31 Test matches,” Jaffer had said in an interview.
“The fact that I played for my country still remains the proudest moment of my life. I still enjoy the sport of cricket,” he added.
Wasim Jaffer was also the youngest Indian to score a triple century in first-class cricket where he was unbeaten at 314 playing for Mumbai.

Wasim Jaffer is an inspiration. At 40, has scored a brilliant double hundred against a Rest of India attack also compromising Ashwin.— Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) March 15, 2018
