Windies all-rounder Andre Russell will miss the T20I series against India. This comes as a big setback for the visitors who have already lost a few of their gun players. Russell’s unavailability was officially confirmed by Windies cricket.

Russell misses India’s series

The Windies all-rounder was named in the 15-member squad selected for the three T20 international games against India. However, he didn’t arrive at Kolkata with the team and it was believed that he would join the team soon.

But the all-rounder wasn’t seen in Windies’ training sessions and later Chairman of Selectors of Windies cricket team Courtney Browne made it clear that Russell was injured at this time.

This means that the right-hand batsman won’t be able to participate in the T20 international series.

Russell’s prolonged injury

The Windies cricketer featured in the Afghanistan Premier League recently but had flown back to home mid-way through the tournament citing knee injury.

He then spent some time in the rehab and was expected to join the Windies team for the T20 series against India.

But he hasn’t yet recovered from the injury and will have another fitness Test ahead of the T10 tournament in the UAE that begins on November 21. The Windies team management would be hoping that the all-rounder is available for the matches against Bangladesh which will take place soon after the T10 tournament.

Russell’s unavailability a massive blow for visitors

The world champions Windies are already playing without their key players such as Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree. And now Russell’s injury means that the visitors will have a weak middle-order.

Russell was an essential cog of windies’ white-ball team. The right-hand batsman is one of the most powerful strikers of the ball and is known for scoring runs at an astonishing pace. His medium-pace bowling is more than handy while his fielding skills make one of the best fielders in this format.
