AUS all-rounder fit for second ODI vs India

By Chaitanya Laxman

All-rounder Mitchell Marsh has regained fitness and is available for the second ODI versus India. Marsh was suffering from an illness and had to miss the first ODI.

Marsh fit for the second ODI

Australia’s vice-captain Alex Carey stated that Mitch is good and he is back fully fit and ready to go.

Carey explained that the all-rounder is going to have a bowl on Monday and he will have a hit, so they will see how he pulls up.

Mitchell Marsh was hospitalised with gastritis and hence had to sit out for the first ODI against India. Australia had roped in Ashton Turner as a cover for Marsh but he didn’t find a place in the playing XI.

Where can AUS slot Marsh?

Australia’s batting department performed decently in the first ODI against India. Peter Handscomb and Marcus Stoinis batted with responsibility and hence the team management would want to give them a longer rope.

On the other hand Glenn Maxwell didn’t get enough time to make an impact and thus it will be interesting to see where Australia slots Marsh if they decide to play him in the second ODI.

Carey backs Maxwell

At the same time, Carey backed Maxwell. He noted that Glenn Maxwell is sitting in the sheds ready to go with two, three overs to go, and he thinks that’s a pretty powerful position for Australian cricket side to be in.

Carey noted that Maxwell has had lots of opportunities up the top of the order before … you could argue the point he should be batting higher.

Personally he feels that it’s pretty exciting to have that power hitting later in the innings as Maxwell doesn’t need too many balls to make a big impact.

Australia ODI squad:

Aaron Finch (c), Jason Behrendorff, Alex Carey (wk), Peter Handscomb, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Peter Siddle, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Ashton Turner, Adam Zampa
