Australia cricketer Mitchell Marsh had to face the wrath of the Aussie fans during the first day of third Test against India. The fans at the Melbourne cricket ground booed the all-rounder when he came to bowl in the first innings.
The right-hand batsman has replaced Peter Handscomb in the third Test. Handscomb hails from Victoria and hence has local support. However Marsh features for Western Australia.
Thus the local crowd was unhappy to see Handscomb being replaced by the all-rounder. So, when he came to bowl some fans in the Great Southern Stand booed Marsh.
Currently both Handscomb and Marsh are batting for the same spot in the middle-order. But both of them have done little to grab the spot on merit.
Mitchell Marsh fared poorly in the Test series against Pakistan and was replaced by Handscomb for the Test series against India.
But Handscomb didn’t make any impact in the first two Tests against India forcing the selectors to bring back the all-rounder in the team.
The Australian players were unimpressed by the reception the all-rounder received at MCG.
Travis Head said that he doesn’t think it’s great. He noted that obviously they have seen a bit with Kohli as well, but for Mitch, who worked his bum off today …
Head noted that the all-rounder bowled exceptionally well and created great pressure in tough conditions, fought really hard.

He further stated that he understands, a Victorian crowd and Petey [Handscomb] obviously missing out but he thinks it was pretty poor for Mitchy to cop that.
Head thinks the way Mitch showed today, he is a great team man, great fellow … he thinks he did a wonderful job so, disappointing. So hopefully that won’t be the case for the next couple of days.
