Mumbai Indians saw their bowlers stepping up to the occasion as they defended a total of 168 against Delhi and registered their sixth win in IPL 2019. And this happened after Hardik Pandya once again delivered an effective cameo and the openers provided a stable start.

Chahar, Bumrah knock out Delhi

Chasing 169 runs, Delhi got off to a decent start as Shikhar Dhawan raced away to 35 runs off 22 balls. But on the other hand Prithvi Shaw was struggling as he ate up 24 balls for his 20 runs.

Chahar removed Dhawan in the 7th over to deliver the first break through and one over later ended Shaw’s agony as well. In the 10th over, Krunal Pandya got the big wicket of Colin Munro and three balls later Chahar castled Iyer. And suddenly Delhi were at four down for 63 runs.

Sensing the opening, Rohit brought back his ace weapon Jasprit Bumrah in the attack and he delivered by removing the dangerous Rishabh Pant for just 7 runs.

Axar Patel (26 off 23 balls) tried to revive the chase but he got no support from the other end and Delhi managed just 128 runs in their 20 overs.

Earlier in the night, Rohit Sharma (30 off 22 balls) and Quinton de Kock (35 off 27 balls) gave Mumbai a solid foundation by scoring 57 runs for the first wicket in 6.1 overs.

The ploy of promoting Ben Cutting to number three backfired as he scored just 2 runs while de Kock was run-out in the 10th over. Suryakumar Yadav scored 26 runs off 27 balls as Delhi tied down Mumbai in the middle overs.

But once again Hardik delivered the final punch by hammering 32 runs off just 15 balls and he received a good support from Krunal Pandya (37 off 26 balls) who so far was struggling in this season of Indian Premier League.  Courtesy of them Mumbai scored 64 runs off the last five overs despite losing two wickets.
