With the series scoreline yet to be moved, England and India are locking horns in the second Test match at Lord’s cricket ground.Team India dominated the home team in the first contest and was even cruising to victory. The visitors needed 157 runs on the final day with nine wickets in hand however, not a single delivery was bowled on the final day due to rain. The Joe Root led-side would be hoping to put a better display and take a 1-0 lead in the five-Test series.

Why Stuart Broad is not playing the second Test match?

England skipper Joe Root won the toss and decided to bowl first against India in the second Test match at Lord’s cricket ground. The home side made three changes, bringing in Mark Wood, Moeen Ali and Haseeb Hameed in place of ace pacer Stuart Broad, Dan Lawerence and Zack Crawley respectively.

While Moeen Ali and Haseeb Hameed were drafted into the England XI to bring balance into the side, Stuart Broad on the other hand tweaked his right calf on Tuesday during a warm-up session and as a result of which the pacer has sustained a tear to his right calf which further ruled him out of the Lord’s Test match and remaining matches of the ongoing five-Test series against India.

Broad picked up the lone Indian wicket in the visitors’ second innings of the first Test at Trent Bridge. He returned overall figures of 88-1 in the rain-affected match.

Shardul Thakur reportedly pulled his hamstring and didn’t train with the squad since Team India started training in London. Instead, he has spent time with India physiotherapist Nitin Patel and trainer Nick Webb at the gym. His injury doesn’t seem bad enough and is most likely to be fit for the third Test which will start on August 25, nine days after the second Test is scheduled to finish.
