Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli

India and England have kicked off the second World Test Championship. The first of the five-match Test series is taking place at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. England elected to bat first after winning the toss. With a few overs remaining before lunch, Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli were involved in a courageous call to take two DRS reviews in the same over.

Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli Take a Brave Call

England lost the first wicket of the very first over as Bumrah trapped Rory Burns in front. Dominic Sibley and Zak Crawley stitched a good partnership to take the home side to 41-2 in 20 overs.

Mohammed Siraj steamed in for the 21st over. On the second delivery, India took a DRS review for caught behind. The fielding side was very hopeful they had their man. However, they were unsuccessful as Crawley was late in bringing his bat down and did not touch the ball.

On the final delivery, Siraj bowled another lethal swinger which created another chance. Pant caught the ball, and the Indians launched another appeal. The on-field umpire again shook his head. This time, the fielders were not sure, and skipper Virat Kohli was a little circumspect. However, Rishabh Pant pleaded with him and convinced him to take a second review in the same over. India’s DRS Woes

It is a fact that the Indians don’t like the DRS. Ever since MS Dhoni’s retirement, the success rate of the DRS appeals has gone further downhill. One needs to judge the bounce and the line correctly for the LBW appeals. All blame does not lie with Virat Kohli. The close-in fielders, bowler, and the wicket-keeper have an equally important role to play.
