India experimented with a different opening combination against the match against Australia and it worked for the team. Then in the next game, the semi-finals, the team fielded the same combination which meant senior batter Mitahli Raj had to sit out for the crucial encounter.

After the match, Harmanpreet explained the reasoning behind this decision. She said that it is not about not selecting Mithali, it is about keeping a winning combination. She noted that whatever they decided, they decided for the team. She admitted that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t and she has no regrets.
