Kohli wants India bowlers to skip IPL and focus on World Cup

Indian skipper Virat Kohli wants Indian bowlers who will be playing in the world cup to skip the the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League so that they can focus on the world cup.

 

Indian skipper makes his request to CoA

The Indian captain Virat Kohli has put forward his request in a meeting with the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators.

The meeting was conducted for discussing India’s poor show in the recent tour of England. It was convened by CoA members Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji and along with Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Indian coach Ravi Shastri and chairman of selectors MK Prasad were also present in the meeting.

 

IPL CEO consulted for consequences of such a move

According to a report published by an English newspaper, after hearing the request from Kohli, the CoA has consulted with IPL chief operating officer Hemang Amin on the feasibility of this request.

And the newspaper has reported that Amin has advised the CoA that if such a move is made then the franchises must be informed about it in advance or at least before November 15  as on this date the window for player transfers closes.

The request only for bowlers and not for batsmen

The report also says that the request made by the Indian skipper is only limited to bowlers and nothing is been spoken about the batsmen.

Kohli, Rahane and Rohit didn’t say anything about the participation of the batsmen in the IPL and have only stressed on the involvement of bowlers in the T20 tournament.

The 2019 ODI world cup is scheduled to start from May 30 and will run till July 14. Cricket boards of Australia and England have already made it clear that their players will play in IPL only till April 30 as they will be joining their respective teams for preparatory camps.
