Pant will score more Test hundreds than Dhoni: Ponting

Young Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant has impressed everyone with his flamboyant batting style and now former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting too has appreciated him. Ponting has claimed that Pant will score more Test hundreds than Dhoni and he compared the Indian wicket-keeper with Adam Gilchrist.

 

Pant is a sort of another Adam Gilchrist: Ponting

Ponting stated that we talk about MS Dhoni all the time and his impact on Indian cricket. But the Aussie cricketer pointed out that Dhoni has played a lot of Tests for India but made only six Test
hundreds.

Ponting believes that this kid (Rishabh Pant) will make a lot more Test hundreds than that. He also revealed that they talk about him in the commentary box and he is sort of like another Adam Gilchrist.

 

Pant will play a lot of Test cricket for India: Ponting

The former Aussie cricketer was full of appreciation for the young Indian cricketer. He said that Pant is a real talent and an incredibly good ball striker. He noted that the left-hander has got a really good game sense as well.

According to Ponting, the youngster is someone who could play a lot of Test cricket for India across formats. But at the same time he pointed out that Pant has got to do a bit of work on his keeping and he will also become a better batsman.

 

Pant wins ICC’s Emerging Player of the year award

The Indian wicket-keeper won the prestigious Emerging Player of the Year award at the ICC awards courtesy of his impressive performance in Test cricket. He is also part of ICC’s Test team of the year.

Pant made his Test debut against England in 2018 and made the headlines by hammering a six off his only second ball in Test cricket.

He scored his maiden Test hundred in the fifth Test against England and then was out in the nineties on a couple of occasions against Windies. He continued to impress in Australia and scored another hundred in the fourth Test.

Behind the wickets, he equaled the world record of most dismissals behind the wickets by claiming 11 catches against Australia.
