Meanwhile, Malik continued his purple match against India as well but he failed to get any support from the other batsmen. The right-hand batsman scored a valiant knock of 78 runs to push Pakistan to a respectable total of 237 runs in 50 overs.

However Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan made a mockery of Pakistan’s bowling attack and chased the target with ease. Both openers scored centuries and added 210 runs for the first wicket which enabled India to cruise home in the 40th over itself.

With this win, India have reached the finals of the Asia cup while Pakistan will face Bangladesh in a virtual semi-final on September 25. India’s last match of super four stage is against Afghanistan on September 25.
