Windies player chooses Afghan League over ODIs against India

A major blow for Windies team as the ‘Universe Boss’ and the star batsman Chris Gayle is reportedly set to miss the ODI series against India for Afghanistan Premier League. Gayle last played an international fixture for Windies back in 2017 in Zimbabwe and he was likely to play for the home side against India but the big man has some other plans. Gayle was offered to play against Bangladesh in the ODI series but was rested in T20 series.

According to a media report, Chris Gayle is provided with a No Objection Certificate to play in Afghanistan Premier League with a clause. NOC has the verdict on Gayle’s future as it is not essential that he will be playing in the World Cup 2019 while Gayle expressed his wish to play in the marquee event.

Recently, Gayle was not considered in the list of the central contract by West-Indies Cricket Board. Along with Gayle, other players who are playing T20 leagues around the world were also ignored in central contract list. One of the big names, Evin Lewis, denied the contract because he wanted to play T20 leagues in his international career barring Windies.

Chris Gayle has a fan base in the Asian country but saying no to India will eventually hurt them. Some of the fans shared their views on the same, and they slammed West-Indies board over the downfall of the team’s performance.

Afghanistan Premier League has been in the news for these reasons. Firstly, PCB denied player’s request to take part in the league barring retired ones then Chris Gayle denied West-Indies board to take part in the schedule for the league.
