Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings

Indian Premier League 2020, Match 4

Date & Time: 22 September, 2020 at 7:30PM IST

Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE

RR vs CSK: Who will win?

After two thrilling encounters in Dubai, the IPL action will shift its base to the iconic Sharjah cricket stadium where the finalists of the inaugural 2008 season Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings will lock horns with each other. Chennai is coming off a convincing win over Mumbai in the tournament opener, whereas Rajasthan will be playing their first match of the tournament, that too without the services of their star batsman Jos Buttler. Even though both these sides are evenly matched on paper, Buttler’s absence is expected to shift the advantage in favour of the Super Kings. So bet on CSK to win this match.

Strength

Rajasthan Royals:

  • Strong overseas core.
  • Strong domestic batting line-up with a mixture of experience and youth.
  • Inexperienced yet dynamic bowling unit.

Chennai Super Kings:

  • Vastly experienced batting line-up.
  • One of the strongest spin attack in the tournament.
  • The current form of all-rounder Sam Curran.

Weakness

Rajasthan Royals:

  • Absence of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, probably two of the greatest white-ball players in the world right now.
  • Inexperienced and one-dimensional spin attack. All their spinners are leggies.
  • Death bowling. Apart from Jofra Archer, rest of RR bowlers have terrible economy rates at the death.

Chennai Super Kings:

  • The opening duo of Shane Watson and Murali Vijay are not an ideal T20 opening pair. Apart from the knock in the last year’s final, Shane Watson hasn’t been able to find form in the near past. So do Murali Vijay.
  • Except for Ravindra Jadeja, there are no left-handers in the batting line-up.
  • CSK is an ageing side. With large boundaries in the UAE, their fielding is expected to go down, which was evident in the first match except for outstanding efforts from Faf du Plessis.

Win Prediction

  • RR- 30%
  • CSK- 70%

  • They are high on confidence after beating a strong MI side in the tournament opener.
  • Young Sam Curran, who replaced Dwayne Bravo showed great character in the first match. He is expected to continue the same form, as per today match prediction.

RR VS CSK MATCH PREDICTION

The first match in Sharjah is expected to be a one-sided affair as CSK starts as clear cut favourites against this weakened Rajasthan line-up. Rajasthan who will be playing their first match of the tournament is without the services of opening batsman Jos Buttler and star all-rounder Ben Stokes. Their absence will hurt RR big time. David Miller is expected to replace Stokes and either of Uthappa or Vohra will replace Buttler at top of the order. Apart from that RR lacks quality in their bowling to tackle this CSK challenge. On the positive note, some of their new recruits along with their seasoned campaigners makes up a strong domestic batting core. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Sanju Samson, Manan Vohra and Robin Uthappa are all capable of single-handedly pulling them out of any trouble. To add to that they have the services of one of the most sought out young bowlers in world cricket, Jofra Archer. Steve Smith who has an impressive win ratio as captain in the IPL, will be leading this side and he will have to step up as a batsman to give this MS Dhoni-led CSK a strong fight.

CSK on the other hand has fewer problems to sort out. Their only worry will be regarding their opening pair. Both Watson and Vijay haven’t played much of T20 cricket in the last one year and it’s clearly showing in their batting performances. Despite that, they will get one more trail in this match as Dhoni is known to be a man who trusts and backs his players to the fullest. Lungi Ngidi who leaked runs at the start will also be under the scanner in this match, but the way he came back in the death made sure that he doesn’t lose his place to Hazlewood. The CSK line-up is expected to be the same.

RR Playing 11- Robin Uthappa/Manan Vohra, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Steve Smith, David Miller, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Shreyas Gopal, Jofra Archer, Tom Curran/Andrew Tye, Jaydev Unadkat

CSK Playing 11- Shane Watson, Murali Vijay, Faf du Plessis,  Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Kedar Jadhav, Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Piyush Chawla, Lungi Ngidi

  1. Sharjah pitch is more batting-friendly than Dubai and Abu Dhabi and hence young RR batsmen like Jaiswal, Sanju and Parag are expected to perform well.
  2. Yashaswi Jaiswal is a young talented batsman. His U-19 and domestic records are way ahead of is age. Pick him in your fantasy teams to gain big in grand leagues.
  3. Sam Curran is in fine form with both bat and ball. As for cricket betting tips, don’t leave him out of your fantasy teams.

Players who are expected to perform well as per Dream11 Prediction.

Top Batsman

RR- Steve Smith

RR captain Steve Smith is coming after a disastrous England tour as far as his batting is concerned. In the absence of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, he will have to step up and make a big contribution with the bat to match his side up with the mighty CSK. With the kind of character that he is, the chances of him filling that void are quite high.

CSK- Ambati Rayudu

No Raina? No Problem. Ambati Rayudu is up for the challenge. He impressed everyone with his gritty knock of 71 in the tournament opener against Mumbai Indians. He is expected to continue the same for today's match.

Other prominent batsmen- Faf Du Plessis, Sanju Samson, Sam Curran

Top Bowler

RR- Jofra Archer

Archer is the lone trustable pacer in the RR line-up and rightly so his contribution in both powerplay and death will come in handy much more than ever in this important encounter against CSK.

CSK- Lungi Ngidi

He leaked runs in the initial phase of the first match. But he came back strongly in the death overs and picked up important 3 wickets. As far as wicket-taking is Lungi Ngidi is the man to invest in for online cricket betting.

Other prominent bowlers- Shreyas Gopal, Piyush Chawla, Deepak Chahar

Most Sixes

RR- Sanju Samson

CSK- MS Dhoni

Both these wicket-keeper batsmen are capable of shifting gears whenever needed. Back them to hit more maximums than the rest of their team-mates.

Player of the Match

Ambati Rayudu

With Sharjah conditions suiting the batsmen more, the in-form batsman Ambati Rayudu is expected to have a good game. He is our prediction for the player of the match category.
