2nd Test ENG vs NZ: The cricketing world witnessed an extremely shameful incident recently when England’s Ollie Robinson was caught under the scanner for his old racist and sexist tweets that went viral on the social media. Despite making a public apology, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has suspended Robinson from all forms of international cricket after the all-rounder had a brilliant debut outing at Lord’s in the first Test against New Zealand. However, in a massive recent development, another England cricketer’s racist and sexist comments from the past have come in ECB’s radar.
According to Wisden’s recent report, the cricketer was actually under the age of 16 when had posted the racist tweet and that is the main reason why the player’s identity has not been disclosed. However, the ECB has stated that they have already started their investigation on the matter.
“It has been brought to our attention that an England player has posted historic offensive material on their social media account. We are looking into it and will make a further comment in due course,” the ECB mentioned in a statement.
On the other hand, the England players are now very much scared with regards to their social media activities going public as off-spinner Dom Bess recently deactivated his Twitter account after he got selected for the 2nd Test England vs New Zealand. At the same time, Bess’ old social media post of allegedly making fun of India’s national anthem has also gone viral on the internet. Also, several social media posts from star England players like Joe Root, Jason Roy and many others have also come under the scanner.
With the first Test ending in a draw, England and New Zealand will now lock horns in the second and final Test match starting from 10 June in Birmingham. England will have to look for a replacement for a suspended Ollie Robinson and thus, one of Craig Overton or Dom Bess might get a place in the ENG playing 11. On the other hand, left-arm pacer Trent Boult is likely to make his return in the New Zealand playing 11 for the Edgbaston Test match.
