Mohammad siraj 3 wickets 2 maidens

The all important group stage game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a worse possible start for the Knight Riders as they succumbed to Mohammad Siraj’s superb spell of fast bowling.

Steller spell of seam bowling by Mohammad Siraj

Mohammad Siraj came on to bowl the second over in the first innings after Kolkata captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to bat. Little did he know that he would go on to achieve what no other bowler has managed to achieve in the 12 year history of the Indian Premier League.

Mohammad Siraj became the first person in history of IPL to bowl 2 maiden overs in back to back overs. Even more staggering stat is that both of these overs were wicket maidens. Overall Mohammad Siraj finished with career best figures of 4-2-8-3. 4 overs, 2 maidens, 8 runs and 3 wickets. All three of his wickets came in his first spell. At the end of that first spell he stood at 3 overs 2 maidens 2 runs and 3 wickets.

Tripathi, Rana and Banton fall prey

Rahul Tripathi was the first victim in Mohammad Siraj’s dream spell. On the third ball of second over, Mohammad Siraj bowled a ball on a good length slightly seamed away and took the edge of Rahul Tripathi’s bat. AB de Villiers did the rest behind the stumps to send Rahul Tripathi walking.

Then it was Nitish Rana’s turn to face the music. He’s already in terrible form and a good length ball pitching on line and slight inward movement was too good a first ball for him. His stumps were rattled and Mohammad Siraj was on a hat trick and Tom Banton defended the next couple of deliveries to close out a double wicket maiden. Meanwhile Navdeep Saini dismissed Shubman Gill in the next over before Mohammad Siraj returned to bowl yet another wicket maiden. This time Tom Banton’s turn to edge one for AB de Villiers to take his second catch and then it was Eoin Morgan who played 3 dots to close out the second wicket maiden.
