The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Monday, 24th August, announced their T20I squad set to host India in a 3-match T20I series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, India. Opening batter Ibrahim Zadran will lead the 15-member squad that features many familiar names, along with some key players returning to the squad.

The entire three-match series will be hosted at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 13, 15, and 17.

Ibrahim Zadran’s first stint as Afghanistan’s T20I skipper

Right-hand opening batter Ibrahim Zadran will be leading the side for the first time in T20I cricket after being appointed the skipper of the shortest format of the game back in March 2026. This would be his first assignment as the national skipper, and he would want his captaincy stint to kick off with a bang.

Former captain Rashid Khan remains an integral part of the setup as the team’s primary match-winning leg-spinner. Former skipper Mohammad Nabi and power-hitting all-rounder Gulbadin Naib also provide vital tactical support and experience to assist Zadran in his new tenure.

“The Afghanistan Cricket Board has always made every effort to select a well-balanced and fully prepared squad for all relevant competitions. We have followed the same approach for the upcoming series against India, and I hope the Afghanistan team will deliver an outstanding performance in these matches,” ACB’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Naseeb Khan said in a statement from the cricket governing body.

“It is a great pride that Afghanistan is hosting a major cricketing nation for the first time. This reflects the progress Afghan cricket has made toward achieving its major objectives and shows that we are steadily advancing toward the strategic goals identified by the organization,” he further added.
