Anderson believes Virat Kohli is lying. Here’s why?

Virat Kohli feels ‘it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t score runs as long as India wins but England fast bowler James Anderson believes that the Indian captain has to be lying if he says that his individual form doesn’t matter in the upcoming Test series against England which is scheduled to begin from August 1.

“It doesn’t matter for him if he gets runs or not? I think he is lying here,” Anderson said when asked to respond on Kohli’s statement.

In 2014, Kohli had struggled to score runs in England and could only score 134 in five Tests. It is one of his lowest records in Test cricket.

Although he managed to score 655 runs in five Tests against England in the home series, he will still try to get rid of the ghosts of 2014.

Ahead of the beginning of the ongoing tour, Kohli had replied to the queries related to his form by stating that he will enjoy the game in England rather than procrastinate over his individual form as long as the team performs well.

“To win here in England will certainly matter for England. Virat Kohli will be desperate to score runs for his team. And this is what you expect from one the best players in the world and the captain of the team,” he said.

The 35-year-old dismissed Kohli four times in six innings during the 2014 tour.  James Anderson has dismissed Kohli five times since 2012.

However, he struggled during the 2016 tour of India as he returned with four wickets in three Tests.

“Cricketers learn from watching match footage and their past experiences. So I would expect a batsman of Kohli’s quality to have learnt from that last series here which was played in 2014.

“I am sure he is practising hard at certain aspects of his game and it will make the battle between him and me,  and his battle with the rest of our bowlers, an interesting one,” Anderson said.

Notably, there is a heat wave in England at present and the conditions could suit India more in the upcoming series.
