Anrich Nortje To Play DC vs RCB IPL Match 22? Delhi Capitals' Likely Overseas Players

Anrich Nortje IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals fast bowler Anrich Nortje was amongst the five players leaving South Africa vs Pakistan home series midway to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). And though all other four, Quinton de Kock (MI), Kagiso Rabada (DC), David Miller (RR) and Lungi Ngidi (CSK), players joined their respective team’s bio-bubble after completing a mandatory 7-day quarantine period, Nortje had to spend an extended time in isolation following a false Covid-19 positive report. But there was no untoward event for the 27-year-old this time with the tests coming negative. He is back in the Delhi camp as a result and is available for selection for DC vs RCB IPL 2021 match which will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday evening (IST).

Anrich Nortje IPL 2021

Anrich Nortje is yet to make an appearance for DC in IPL 2021. That seems odd considering he and Kagiso Rabada made a formidable partnership last season with the couple accounting for a staggering 52 wickets. But a couple of factors are behind Nortje’s absence so far, with Covid and DC’s good form making it hard for Nortje to break into DC playing 11.

However, that may change here. Ravichandran Ashwin has pulled out from IPL 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, leaving a gaping hole in DC’s bowling unit. Delhi’s head coach Ricky Ponting is forced to flirt with the team combination as a result.

That said, spin is not a head-scratching issue for captain Rishabh Pant as players such as Amit Mishra, Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav can fill the big shoes of Ashwin, but the fourth overseas spot remains a concern for the last season’s beaten- finalists.

DC vs RCB Today Match Prediction

Shimron Hetmyer has been a luxury at times, while Smith is yet to play a statement inning. However, Smith is ahead of Hetmyer in the pecking order, while Kagiso Rabada and Marcus Stoinis are the preferrable options for both Ponting and Pant. And that leaves Hetmyer in hot water and if Nortje comes into the team, he is likely to replace Hetmyer in DC Playing 11.

Combination 1: DC’s four overseas players against RCB:

1. Marcos Stoinis
2. Steve Smith
3. Anrich Nortje
4. Kagiso Rabada

On current form, Rabada is not a sure-shot option in DC playing 11. He is struggling to hit the lofty levels we all know he can hit. If DC team management looks to keep Hetmyer in playing 11 to extend the batting unit, the 25-year-old South African is the likeliest candidate to make way for Nortje.
