Finally, the great Australian fortress of Gabba is breached. India powered by few young bloods marched fearlessly through the so called ‘Australian Fortress’ and ended the 32-year, 24-0 winning record of Aussies at the Gabba. After the historic win Indian off spinner R Ashwin shut down Australian captain Tim Paine with a cheeky tweet mentioning the ‘Can’t wait to get you to Gabba mate’ comment that was passed onto him from Paine during the last Test at SCG.

The fortress Gabba is breached

After 32 long years the great Australian fortress of Gabba is breached. The Gabba ground in Brisbane is one ground in Australia, where the hosts pride themselves on being the unquestionable dominant side. Historically they have had the upper-hand in all games played at this venue. Since 1988, they have won all 24 Tests that they have played here. This was one of the primary reasons why the current Australian captain Tim Paine used ‘Gabba’ as a tool to intimidate the Indians ahead of this Test match. They were pretty sure of their victory at Gabba and the Indian team’s reluctance to travel to the venue, citing intense restrictions in Brisbane added to the already burning fuel. Aussies turned this reluctance by Indians into fear and started intimidating them with the same during the SCG Test.

“Can’t wait to get you to Gabba, mate” Paine told Ashwin during the third Test.

“Can’t wait to get you to India, It will be your last series”, Ashwin replied.

Even though Ashwin gave a fitting reply to that immediately, he too in his wildest dreams wouldn’t have expected him to hit back at Paine with an even more savage reply.

Ashwin gives a fitting reply to Paine

The fact that the Gabba has been breached by a young Indian side, short on experience that too against a full-strength Australian side, calls for intense celebrations in India and utter disappointment in Australia. Like most of the fans, Ashwin too used this historic moment to hit back at Paine.

He wrote a cheeky tweet thanking Paine and team for being a generous host at the Gabba.

“Good evening from Gabba!! I am sorry I couldn’t play here but thanks for hosting us and playing some hard cricket during these tough times. We will remember this series forever! @tdpaine36 @CricketAus”
