Steve Smith AUS vs IRE: In a big breaking news development, senior batsman Steve Smith has once again failed to find a spot in the Australia playing XI for their fourth game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against Ireland scheduled to be played at The Gabba in Brisbane. Australia’s most recent game against arch-rivals England got washed out especially after their amazing 7-wicket victory against Sri Lanka earlier in this ongoing T20 competition.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Australian captain Aaron Finch revealed that Steve Smith is still not playing this crucial game against Ireland. Barring Marcus Stoinis’ stunning half-century against Sri Lanka, the Aussie batting line-up with the likes of skipper Aaron Finch, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell have not done well in the tournament so far and this is why, Smith’s exclusion has been doing the rounds. However, the Australian team management have backed the likes of Marsh and Tim David for this power-packed T20 format ahead of Steve Smith who does not have the best of strike-rate. Finch did mention that they have made a change to their side with leg-spinner Adam Zampa returning for Ashton Agar.
“We would have bowled first as well, looks like a pretty good surface. We need to make sure we do the basics right. We haven’t talked about the net run rate yet. Adam Zampa is back for Agar. We considered all factors, we are pretty confident with the side we got,” said Australian captain Aaron Finch during the toss.
