Adam Gilchrist shares a warm message for MS Dhoni

India suffered a heart-breaking defeat against New Zealand in the first semi-final.  Chasing a target of 240 runs, India fell short by 18 runs and lost to the blackcaps. Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni stitched a partnership of 116 runs.

However, Jadeja got tricked by Boult’s delivery while Dhoni got run-out. Adam Gilchrist took to Twitter to express his disappointment over the loss and appreciated Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his contribution. He wrote, “Not sure if you are playing on but thanks Mahendra Singh Dhoni. You have given the game so much. I have always admired your calmness and self-belief.

The 38-year old wicket-keeper batsman has drawn criticism for his form in recent times. In this world cup, he has scored 273 runs in 9 innings.

Dhoni scored 50 runs off 72 balls in the last match and he kept a billion dreams alive while he was on the field. Unfortunately, Dhoni got run out and India couldn’t chase down the modest total of 239. It was probably the last World Cup for Dhoni. However, Virat Kohli has rubbished the speculations and has confirmed that Dhoni has not given them any hints about retirements yet.

Rain played a spoilsport on the first day of play and the match moved to reserve day. India restricted New Zealand for 239 but India’s journey ended in the tournament and the black caps sealed a spot in the finals.

Gilchrist also urged Indian fans to support Team India despite the loss. He added that India are a top team and they play exciting cricket which is a joy to watch.
