India are in a spot of bother with respect to their place in the finals of the World Test Championship. They need to win atleast five of their remaining six tests to play in the final at Oval. India made the finals of the previous WTC cycle as well where they got hammered by New Zealand. They will be hoping to do one better in this cycle but they have quite a few obstacles in the form of injury.
BAN vs IND: Jaydev Unadkat makes a comeback
Jaydev Unadkat, last played for India in 2010-2011 tour to South Africa. He played in the first test of the series and gave away 101 runs for no wicket. He hasn’t played a test since then, as a matter of fact, he hasn’t even been called up to the squad since that your. He has been putting up some consistent performances over the years in the ranji circuit.
Mohammad Shami who was supposed to play in the ongoing ODI series was ruled out due to an injury and it has been confirmed that he won’t be available for the upcoming 2 match test series as well. Jaydev Unadkat will replace Mohammad Shami in the squad. India are likely to go in with Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj as the first choice pacers with Ravichandran Ashwin. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar being the 3 spinners in the team. Jaydev Unadkat might have to hope that the pitch assists the faster bowlers in atleast one of the tests which is highly unlikely in Bangladesh. This is a great achievement for Jaydev Unadkat nonetheless, to make a comeback into the squad after a gap of 12 years.
Shubman Gill to open in absence of Rohit Sharma
It is a well known news that Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the test series as well. Shubman Gill is likely to open the innings alongside the skipper KL Rahul in the 2 match test series.
