Veteran Indian swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is all set to don the Indian jersey again. Yes, you heard it right. The experienced seamer has been appointed as the skipper of a powerful seven-member Indian squad for the forthcoming Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2026 edition.

The announcement has led to widespread enthusiasm among the fans who were eager to see Bhuvneshwar back in the blue. He may not be included in the national side, having played for Team India 4 years ago in 2022, but Bhuvneshwar’s inclusion in some sort of Indian setup is definitely a positive for the veteran seamer.

Hong Kong Sixes Rule

With only six fielders per side and five overs per innings, the Hong Kong Sixes format demands high-intensity action from ball one. Here’s a brief overview of the rules.

Team & Match Structure

  • 6 Players per Side: Each team fields 6 players on the pitch instead of the usual 11.
  • 5 Overs per Innings: Matches consist of 5 overs per side (though finals sometimes extend to 5 overs of 8 balls each).
  • Mandatory Bowling: Every fielder except the designated wicketkeeper must bowl exactly 1 over.

Batting & Runs

  • Mandatory Retirement at 31 Runs: A batter must retire “not out” immediately upon reaching 31 runs. However, if all other batters are dismissed or retired, a retired batter can return to complete the innings.
  • The “Last Man Standing” Rule: If 5 wickets fall before the 5 overs finish, the remaining single batter continues batting alone. The 5th dismissed batter remains on the pitch purely as a non-striking runner, and the lone batter must take the strike for all remaining deliveries.
  • No LBW: Batter dismissals via Leg Before Wicket (LBW) are generally excluded to encourage aggressive shot-making.

Extras & Penalties

  • Wides & No-Balls: Wides and no-balls carry a penalty of 2 runs (plus a re-bowl or free hit depending on specific playing conditions), rewarding aggressive batting off extras.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return in Indian colors is the biggest news for the fans. The master of swing back in action on the international stage, leading a contingent stacked with proven Indian Premier League (IPL) stars and international experience, should be a treat for his fans.
