Seems like the castle of Mumbai Indians is falling down. After rumors of Hardik Pandya being done with the 5-time champions, another rumor has picked up fire involving former Team India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. Over the last 48 hours, a wave of panic and intense speculation has gripped Mumbai Indians (MI) fans.

Rumors have been making the noise that the 35-year-old batter is preparing to leave Mumbai Indians ahead of the high-stakes T20 IPL 2027 mini auction. While neither the player nor the franchise has made an official announcement, a sudden and mysterious move on social media has left fans convinced that a major split is underway.

Suryakumar Yadav deleted all MI-related posts from his personal Insta handle

The social media force went into overdrive when fans noticed something fishy on Suryakumar Yadav’s Instagram profile. The former Indian T20I skipper completely wiped out all Mumbai Indians-related content from his account. This move came as a surprise for the fans, considering Suryakumar being the current vice-captain of the side and his terms with the franchise being on the right side.

In a digital world where contracts are decoded through emojis and unfollows, this “silent treatment” was instantly interpreted as a sign of tension between Suryakumar and the MI management.

What could be the reason for this act from Suryakumar Yadav?

To understand why fans are so quick to believe that Suryakumar is leaving, one has to look back at the leadership puzzle within the Mumbai Indians camp for the past three seasons.

Ever since Rohit Sharma was replaced as captain in 2024, the atmosphere in the MI locker room was never been the same. At that time, Suryakumar Yadav was the current captain of the Indian National T20 team. Naturally, a player who leads his country at the highest level would expect or desire to lead his franchise in the IPL as well. However, the team management drafted all-rounder Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans and made him lead the side for the next three seasons. This call from the team management must have left some grudges in Surya’s mind for the franchise.

If the Mumbai Indians are committed to keeping a different leadership structure, Suryakumar might feel that the time is right to enter the auction pool ahead of the 2027 IPL mini auctions. There is absolutely no doubt that at least half a dozen franchises would gladly hand him both a record-breaking paycheck and the captain’s armband from day one.

MI’s Hardik Pandya Fiasco

Suryakumar is not the only superstar rumored to be packing his bags. Making things even crazier for Mumbai Indians are the reports exploding online stating that their current captain, Hardik Pandya, is also “done” with the Mumbai Indians and wants to leave before the IPL 2027 season.

Sources close to the team reveal that Hardik has been feeling “mentally stressed and completely exhausted” after facing non-stop trolling and booing from fans over the last three seasons. After a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign where MI finished ninth on the points table, Hardik reportedly told the management after MI’s playoff hopes got dashed that he does not want to stay. With the dressing room pulled in completely different directions, Hardik’s potential exit means the Mumbai Indians might lose both their current captain and their biggest T20 match-winner (Suryakumar Yadav) at the exact same time.

For now, both Suryakumar’s and Hardik Pandya’s exit news are merely rumors, as neither the players nor the franchise has put the seal on the same. With the next IPL season almost a year away, we might see some key developments within the 5-time champions, who are desperate to turn things around after some really bad IPL seasons in recent years.
