Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is the venue for match no 28 between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. After experiencing a string of defeats, both teams are eager for a victory. In view of the game’s significance, the Knight Riders have made significant alterations to their playing eleven. Among the changes is the replacement of Shardul Thakur, the fast-bowling all-rounder, with Kulwant Khejroliya, the Delhi born left-arm seamer.
In what comes as a huge surprise, Kolkata Knight Riders have benched their seam bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur for this game. He has been replaced by Delhi’s domestic left-arm seamer Kulwant Khejroliya who has represented Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals in the past. Shardul Thakur has had a miserable season so far with the ball. He has only managed to scalp 2 wickets from 68 deliveries so far at a terrible economy of 11.58. Although Shardul scored his maiden IPL fifty this season against RCB in a winning cause, but it’s his bowling that has cost KKR games. Therefore, Shardul’s omission was somewhat expected. Here’s what skipper Nitesh Rana said at the toss,
“We are playing after 3 years thanks to Covid. Every thing feels new. We have four changes. Tough to remember. If we play as a unit. It should be tough to beat us.”

Shardul Thakur was one of the rare players who was traded ahead of the 2023 IPL auctions. The seam bowling all-rounder was traded from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders for his IPL 2022 price money of INR 10.75 Crores. Shardul has represented teams like Punjab Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
