Fifties from skipper Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan enabled Delhi Capitals to chase a target of 164 runs against Kings XI Punjab and gain two crucial points in Indian Premier League 2019.
The victory however was set up once again by Kagiso Rabada who claimed two wickets and Sandeep Lamichhane who bagged three crucial wickets. For Punjab, except for Chris Gayle, the batting was a failure and the bowling department failed to adjust to the dew.
Punjab had a poor start as Lamichhane removed KL Rahul in the second over of the innings and then Rabada sent back Mayank Agarwal in the fifth over. One over later Axar Patel produced the big wicket of David Miller and Punjab had lost three wickets inside eight overs.
But Mandeep Singh (30 off 27 balls) tagged with Chris Gayle who was breathing fire from the other end. Gayle stormed to 69 off 37 balls but Lamichhane came back to put curtains on his show in the 13th over.
And from there on Punjab’s innings imploded but Harpreet Brar slammed 20 off 12 balls to take KXIP to 163 runs in 20 overs.

Delhi’s response was built around the 92 run partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer for the second wicket. Dhawan (56 off 41 balls) was dismissed in the 14th over and Rishabh Pant soon followed him as it looked like Punjab’s bowlers might trigger off another batting collapse.

But Iyer (58 off 49 balls) kept his calm and stood undefeated as Delhi steered home in the 20th over. Colin Ingram scored a quickfire 19 off 9 balls to bring the required run rate down in the crucial stages as Iyer smashed Sam Curran over mid-wicket in the final over to register Delhi’s sixth win in IPL 2019.
