We all know how special Chennai Super Kings is to MS Dhoni. He added another feather to his cap yesterday as he became first player to play 200 IPL match. 170 of his appearances have come in CSK colours. Although there was nothing to cheer about for CSK yesterday, MS Dhoni still made a moment of his own.
MS Dhoni takes a stunner in his 200th!
Defending a total like 125 runs, Chennai Super Kings were searching for some early breakthroughs. And they did exactly that by dismissing openers Ben Stokes and Robin Uthappa in first 4 overs. Soon after when Deepak Chahar came on to bowl the 5th over of the innings, a moment of brilliance came from MS Dhoni. RR batsman Sanju Samson tried to flick a leg-side delivery away for a boundary but he failed to get enough bat on the ball. As a result, he played it finer than intended and MS Dhoni was in play. He took a diving one-handed low catch with his gloves. The effort was clearly appreciated by all CSK players as Deepak Chahar couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Sanju Samson was dismissed and CSK were well and truly in the game.
Jos Buttler masterclass gives two points to RR!
Batting first after winning the toss, CSK didn’t get going at all as they lost Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson in first 4 overs. The pitch was two-paced and batsmen were finding it very difficult to time the ball. Not a single CSK batter was able to consolidate their innings apart from Ravindra Jadeja who provided some momentum with a couple of boundaries at the death. But still the total of 125 was nowhere near competitive.
In reply, Deepak Chahar and Josh Hazlewood began brilliantly for CSK as they took care of RR top order. From 28-3, captain Steve Smith and Jos Buttler came together for a match-winning partnership. Jos Buttler looked at his best with a blistering innings of 70* as RR prevailed without losing any further wickets.
