Different rules for different people: Turbanator slams Indian selectors

By Dheeraj Singh

On Saturday, Indian selectors named a 16-member squad for the Asia Cup 2018 to be played in UAE this month. Rohit Sharma has been given the responsibility to lead the squad after regular Skipper Virat Kohli has been given rest following a straining England tour.

The 16-member squad includes Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav and Rajasthan left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed getting his maiden national team call-up. Suresh Raina, Umesh Yadav and Siddarth Kaul, who all were in the squad for England ODI series have been omitted.

Another surprise to the 16-members squad was not considering Mayank Agarwal. The Karnataka batsman has been in stellar form and continuously scoring heavily in domestic circuits and India A is yet to get a call for the senior team. Agarwal was neglected on the England tour also and not being considered for Asia Cup 2018 is surely disappointing.

On Wednesday, Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to express his surprise and slammed Indian selectors’ decision for not naming Mayank Agarwal who is leaving no stone unturned to get a place in Indian team.

“Where is Mayank Agarwal??? After scoring so many runs I don’t see him in the squad … different rules for different people I guess.” Harbhajan Singh wrote on Twitter.

In response, MSK Prasad, the Chairman of Indian selection board, said that his chance will come sooner than later. Prasad said that Mayank Agarwal has been in fantastic form and is just a step away to get his share.

“He has been consistent in the last 10-12 months. He is just a step away and I am sure in due course of time he will get his recognition,” MSK Prasad said. He is doing well in all three formats and has taken every opportunity thrown at him with open arms. “We will definitely look at it when we rest some of the senior players,” Prasad added.
