During the second day of the second Test match, Lyon suffered a calf tear while fielding, which prevented him from bowling for the remainder of the game. Lyon’s exceptional performance as an Australian off-spinner resulted in him claiming an impressive 8 wickets during the opening Test match held at Edgbaston.

In his absence, Australia played young off-spinner Todd Murphy in the third Test match against England but he was hardly utilised well with the ball as the majority bowling was done by the pace bowlers.
