England is all set to host the reigning T20 World Champions, Team India, in a 5-match series kicking off July 1st. The first of the five games will be played at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street, followed by fixtures in Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol, and Southampton.

Both teams are looking forward to this series, as they will lock horns for the first time in this format since the famous T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal, where India went past England by just 7 runs. England has been playing T20Is since that semifinal, whereas Team India heads into this game on the back of a humiliating defeat to Ireland. The Irish team etched their names into history books by clean-sweeping a test-playing nation for the first time in their cricketing history.

After a depressing showing against Ireland, this series is of vital stature for the new skipper Shreyas Iyer and his men. England is a formidable opponent, and they are former 2-time T20 World Cup winners. Playing England at their home is always a tricky task for the visiting side, but Team India will have to kill their demons to get the better of the English side in this series. As the two teams prep up for the first T20I at Chester-le-Street, let’s take a look at what could be the best possible XI for the two teams.

ENG vs IND 1st T20I: India’s Predicted XI

Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan (WK), Shreyas Iyer (C), Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar/Suryansh Shedge, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna/Prince Yadav

  • Despite failing to give Team India a good start in the T20I series against Ireland, the team management led by head coach Gautam Gambhir may stick with the same opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson at least in the 1st T20I.
  • That would mean young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have to sit for at least one more game before making his India debut.
  • Ishan Kishan will bat at no 3, followed by the new skipper Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube.
  • There could be a toss-up between young all-rounder Suryansh Shedge and Gautam Gambhir’s favorite son, Washington Sundar, for the extra all-rounder slot.
  • Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana will be the automatic choice in the bowling unit.
  • A toss-up between Prince Yadav, who impressed in the 2nd T20I against Ireland, and Prasidh Krishna, who had an unforgettable outing in the 1st T20I vs Ireland, could be on the cards for the third seamer spot.

ENG vs IND 1st T20I: England’s Predicted XI

Philip Salt, Jos Buttler (WK), Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook (C), Tom Banton, Will Jacks, Sam Curran, James Coles/Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Luke Wood

  • Having named a 17-man squad for this series with the core group from the T20 World Cup 2026 retained, expect a familiar eleven to take the field with some sporadic changes.
  • The trusted duo of Philip Salt and Jos Buttler will be opening the innings yet again.
  • The centurion from the last meeting between these two sides in this format, Jacob Bethell, will bat at no 3.
  • Skipper Harry Brook will bat at no 4, followed by Tom Banton, Will Jacks, and Sam Curran.
  • With Jamie Overton unavailable for this series due to injury, James Coles could be handed a T20I debut.
  • Either Coles or veteran left-arm spinner Liam Dawson could get a chance if the surface assists spinners.
  • The trio of Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, and Luke Wood could form the core of the bowling unit in this fixture.
