India are leading the 5 match series 1-0 after the first 2 games. They benched the world’s #1 spinner in test cricket in Ravichandran Ashwin in both the games owing to the conditions that were on offer for both the games.
The Mumbai born Shardul Thakur who made his debut in Australia played in the 1st test at Trent Bridge in place of Ravichandran Ashwin as India wanted an additional swing bowler instead of a spinner.
The bowling all rounder suffered a hamstring injury ahead of the 2nd test and was left out who was replaced by the veteran fast bowler in Ishant Sharma. India went on to win the test in a rather thrilling manner with Ishant Sharma playing a vital role.
The latest news is that Shardul Thakur has been declared fit for the 3rd game and is available for selection. The news was confirmed by the Indian vice captain in Ajinkya Rahane in the pre match press conference in Headingly.
“Shardul Thakur is fit and available for selection for the 3rd Test. Now, we have to look at which combination we are going with. All the fast bowlers are ready to play and they want to play as the break after the 2nd Test helped,” Ajinkya Rahane said
India is the best test side at the moment and is one the best test sides in the history of the test cricket. One of the important factors for a quality test side is having bowlers of all variety who can pick 20 opposition wickets in a game.
India posses such bowlers under their ranks and if any team can drop a bowler of Ravichandran Ashwin’s quality and still go on to dominate the oppositions, one can only imagine the depth of that team. In all likelihood, Ravichandran Ashwin is set to be not picked for the 3rd test as well and he will have to wait for his turn for much longer time now.
