The Day 2 of the first Test match between England and India at Trent Bridge saw the home side under pressure after a solid opening partnership of 97 runs between Rohit Sharma and Kl Rahul. However, after the lunch momentum shifted towards the Joe Root-led side as the visitors were reduced from 97/1 to 112/4 after a mixup between Kl Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane saw the latter back in the dressing room.

Resuming the innings on an overnight score of 21/0, the Indian team had a perfect start to Day 2. Openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul did all the hard work in the opening session and stitched 97 runs for the opening partnership. However, on the stroke of Lunch, Sharma threw his wicket away for 36 runs.

Things got even worse for the visitors when James Anderson removed Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli in two successive deliveries. Just when things started to look settled after two wickets, a mix up with KL Rahul saw Ajinkya Rahane back in the pavilion for just 5 runs.

The English pace spearhead James Anderson won the first battle of the Test series against Indian skipper Virat Kohli. The veteran pacer dismissed the right-handed batsman for a golden duck.

In the 40th over of England’s innings, James Anderson pitched a full-length delivery to Virat Kohli outside the off-stump. The Indian skipper poked forward awkwardly with an angled bat, with the ball swirling away just enough to take the outside edge to the wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. Notably the right-handed pacer dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara a ball before Kohli.

With Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane back in the dressing room, Team India will require a determined effort from Kl Rahul and Rishabh Pant and rest of the players to take visitors to a respectable total.
