ENG vs IND Live: Skipper Virat Kohli’s woeful form in the ongoing England tour continued in the first innings of the third ENG vs IND Test match as James Anderson claimed him for the second time in the five-match series.
It all happened on the 5th ball of the 11th over when James Anderson got one to jag off the length away ever so slightly.
The scrambled seam did the trick for Anderson as Team India skipper Virat Kohli unleashed a confident check drive. The only issue was that the ball took the outside edge of the bat and Jos Butler did the rest by claiming a simple catch to send the Indian skipper packing for a 17-ball 7.
This is the 7th time that James Anderson has dismissed Virat Kohli in Test match cricket, and, along with Nathan Lyon, the legendary England seamer is the most successful bowler against Team India’s captain.
Virat Kohli has now gone 50 international innings without scoring a hundred across formats- 18 in Tests, 15 in ODIs, and 17 in T20Is.
Meanwhile, James Anderson has been literally unplayable on the first morning of the Leeds Test. The legendary seamer provided England with a perfect start as he enticed KL Rahul into an ill-fated cover-drive in the very first over of the Indian innings.
Anderson then claimed Cheteshwar Pujara with a beautiful set-up as he dished out a series of inswingers before getting one to move away from the Indian No.3. All Pujara could do was nick it to Jos Buttler, who did the rest by claiming a simple catch.
At the time of writing, India were 3/31 in 16 overs with Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane together in the middle and the onus is on the experienced duo to repair the sinking ship.
