Former Sri Lankan cricketer charged by ICC anti-corruption unit

Sri Lankan batting legend Sanath Jayasuriya has been accused under the anti-corruption unit of ICC.
He is guilty of two counts of breaching the anti-corruption code issued by the world governing body.
Moreover, Jayasuriya has refused to cooperate with the investigation unit during the course of action quoted by ACU.
Earlier this month Anti Corruption Unit was investigating the serious charges of corruption on Sri Lankan cricket.
And they were ordered to provide the report to the President, Prime Minister and the sports minister of the country.

 

What are the charges?

The former batting great has explicitly been charged under the non-cooperation, tampering, destroying and delaying in providing the genuine evidence to the anti-corruption unit of ICC.

How Jayasuriya hamper the ICC’s investigation?

Cricketer turned politician refused to participate furthermore cooperate in the procedure of inspection. He declined to give his phone to ACU for investigation.

Charges on Jayasuriya!

There are two clauses under which ACU charged him. Article 2.4.6 and Article 2.4.7:

Article 2.4.6: Failure or refusal to team up without proper justification from the investigation

Article 2.4.7: Obstructing or delaying the enquiry with pure intentions, corrupting the evidence.

 

What is Jayasurya’s take on this matter?

Jayasuriya denied the charges by saying; he has been cooperating with the team by maintaining his integrity, transparency in the matter.
He said he would continue to do so for the sake of sports development in the country.

So far there is no relation found between Sanath Jayasuriya and bookies.

Jayasuriya is a cricketer turned politician in Matara, Sri Lanka. He is quite a famous and a reputed name in his hometown.
The former biggie has scored 6,973 runs in 110 Test playing for Sri Lanka. He played a vital role in Sri Lanka’s 1996 world cup conquest.
He took retirement from cricket in 2011 and moved to politics.
