South African Captain Faf du Plessis will miss the remainder of the matches against Sri Lanka in limited overs cricket due to injury in his shoulder. He took injury on Sunday when Proteas clinched 78-run victory against the hosts in One Day Cricket.

Mr Captain hurt his shoulder while diving for a catch and he immediately left the field due to pain. Team manager Mohammed Moosajee said while addressing media, Faf sustained an injury on his shoulder and he will not be available for the rest of the tour. He will need to go to rehab for six months to make a full recovery.

Guest of Sri Lanka already took a lead of 3-0 in the Five-match series while the fourth match is scheduled at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday and captain du Plessis may no longer be the part of the squad.

After Captain’s injury South African dugout is in a big discussion over their new captain. According to the sources, JP Duminy will captain the remainder of the tour because he took the responsibility of the team just after Du Plessis left the field. He may be announced as the captain for the remaining 2 ODI’s in Sri Lanka but there is a chance of Aiden Markram to captain the team as he is the Vice-Captain, but he was not the part of the team due to his form. If the coaches decide Aiden to play the next match, then he may captain the side. So, there is a probability of both the players who can be named as the leader of the pack. As if now, South African dressing rooms haven’t announced any name to be called as their captain, but soon they’ll declare the name.

Next ODI between South Africa and Sri Lanka will be played on 8th August in Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Later on, South Africa will welcome Zimbabwe for a limited over series in late September.
