Harry Brook Withdraws from IPL

Harry Brook pulling out of IPL 2025 has thrown a curveball at Delhi Capitals and fantasy cricket players alike. If you had him in your team, it’s time to rethink your lineup. With this being his second consecutive withdrawal, he now faces a potential two-year ban from the league.

Delhi Capitals had invested Rs 6.5 crore in Brook at last year’s auction, expecting him to strengthen their squad. But just weeks before the tournament, he took to social media to announce that he won’t be playing. He apologized to the franchise and fans, making it clear that his priority is England.

Brook explained on his X page that after a demanding schedule, he needs time to recharge and focus on England’s upcoming series. He knows some people won’t agree with his choice, but for him, international cricket comes first.

His decision also adds to the ongoing speculation about England’s leadership. With Jos Buttler’s position as white-ball captain under scrutiny, Brook is seen as one of the top contenders to replace him, along with Ben Stokes. England’s early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025 could speed up that transition.

Reports from suggest that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about Brook’s decision last week. Delhi Capitals got the news shortly after.

IPL’s rules state that any player who withdraws after being picked at auction faces a two-year ban from the tournament. Since Brook also pulled out last year due to personal reasons, this rule could now come into effect, affecting his IPL future.

Brook’s absence now means adjustments are necessary. Delhi Capitals will need to find a replacement quickly before their first game against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24. If you had Brook in your fantasy squad, now is the time to explore alternative picks before the season starts.
